Awaride connects urban commuters in Nigeria for shared rides, and we handle your data responsibly in compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) and other applicable laws.

By using the Service, you consent to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service. We may update this Policy from time to time, and we will notify you of significant changes via the app or email.

b. Automatically Collected Information

  • Location Data: Precise GPS location (with your permission) to match rides, track trips in real-time, and provide navigation. We may collect background location for ongoing ride monitoring.
  • Device and Usage Data: IP address, device type, operating system, browser type, app version, unique device identifiers, crash reports, and interaction data (e.g., pages viewed, time spent).
  • Log Data: Access times, features used, and error logs.

c. Information from Third Parties

  • Social Media: If you log in via social accounts (e.g., Google, Facebook), we may receive profile information.

  • Legal and Safety Reasons: To law enforcement, regulators, or others if required by law, to protect rights, or in emergencies (e.g., accident reports).
  • Business Transfers: In case of merger, acquisition, or sale, your data may be transferred.
  • With Your Consent: For any other purpose you approve.

We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

We implement reasonable technical, administrative, and physical measures to protect your data, such as encryption, access controls, and regular audits. However, no system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, as a result we remain indemnified from any error leading to the breach of your right to privacy. You are responsible for securing your account (e.g., strong passwords).

In case of a data breach, we will notify affected users and authorities as required by NDPR.

We retain your data as long as necessary for the purposes outlined, or as required by law. Account data is kept while active; inactive accounts may be deleted after 2 years. Ride history is retained for 7 years for legal and tax purposes. You can request deletion (see below).

Under NDPR and applicable laws, you have rights regarding your data:

  • Access: Request a copy of your data.
  • Correction: Update inaccurate information.
  • Deletion: Request erasure (subject to legal obligations).
  • Objection/Restriction: Object to processing or request restrictions.

  • Withdraw Consent: Where processing is based on consent.
  • Opt-Out: Unsubscribe from marketing emails or disable location sharing (may limit Service functionality).
  • Cookies: We use cookies for functionality and analytics. Manage via browser settings; essential cookies cannot be disabled.
